Lore

Gywen-Guardian-CW.jpg

Gywen and Ahruan are two of the most known young elves around iMU. They were born in Noria in a family of traders and traveled around the iMU continent since their very beginning. Their home throughout their childhood was a caravan and all they knew were their potions, elvish weapons and armors. Their family were renowned by their elvish armors because they always made them slender and fitted for a thin-lined elvish body. They perused around trade markets like the ones in their hometown, but also in Lorencia town, just in the nearest vicinity of Noria. Also, Devias and Crywolf fortress were on their list. In Crywolf they only went during the summer when and if they could have found transport over the sea. That was the time when they sold most of the sets they were preparing during winter.

Seeing so many types of people, so many types of creatures and lifestyles, the girls were more and more curious about what the elf life could be outside their caravan. Their parents were simple Fairy Elves, coming from a family of merchants that always believed that success comes with hard work. And that trading was a very respectable profession, that could always put food on the table. But the girls wanted more than just a simple life as a merchant.

They both remembered their first trip to Crywolf merchant area, inside Crywol’s fortress. It was the summer when they both turned seven, that their parents believed that if they’re strong enough to hold a bow, they’re prepared to meet the Wolf of Crywolf. Being in the middle of the iMU continent, Crywolf’s fortress was a big colorful trading point. You could meet there a lot of important tradesmen, creatures from Muse and High elves to strong Blade Masters and handsome Magic Gladiators. But, for the girls, the main attraction were the five beautiful and strong High Elves that were gathered around the wolf’s statue. They were so beautiful, with long blonde hair, emanating a bright light, connecting under the wolf’s power. Gywen and Ahruan were mesmerized. Those elves were much more than they were thought to be. And they wanted to be like them. The only problem is that they needed to get the Muse Elf rank in order to be able to participate in the trials. That meant more than what their parents could afford. Not every Fairy Elf could participate in this important task. They needed to be trained and especially to accept the fact that being an Altar Elf could put their lives in danger.

The Wolf Statue hosts a great power, so great that it keeps the monsters away just by its mere presence. Only a few know that the wolf statue is actually a curse. The curse a young prince got just because of his vanity. And, as the old tale, among the oldest tales, say, once in a full moon, the wolf changes and returns to human form. That is when the great power within it diminishes and the monsters can attack the fortress. This is the moment when the Muse and High elves are needed. They connect their powers to the altar and from the altars all the power flows on the statue, protecting what is inside.

This summer, Gywen and Ahruan’s Crywolf experience was going to be a surprise. They prepared their caravan as they normally do, and went to the ferry to cross the sea to Crywolf. The fortress was exactly as they remembered from a year ago. Vibrating masses that flow slowly inside the city’s walls, merchants shouting their offerts, one higher than the other, beautiful elves looking for garments, strong warriors asking for sharper weapons. The girls met with Amy The Potion Girl, just before she went to Aida to purchase her raw materials for her potions. She told them that Crywolf feels different this year, and that they should be carefull with the business. Before leaving, Amy gave Ahruan and Gywen two shiny Budge Dragon Rings that she just made, just to have fun with them, while being in Crywolf.

They were all staying near Priest Devin while suddenly a big swoosh was heard and the sky started burning with millions of fire arrows. They didn’t know what happened when all those fire arrows started hitting the ground. All the people started falling by seconds and the whole fortress filled with cries of pain. The girls got under the caravan to protect themselves. The feeling of restlessness filled their veins. They saw how people were dying while the altar elves were keeping their posture high and strong. The fortress was still being hit by arrows and three of the altar elves were hit. You could have sensed the power of the protection spell being diminished, each time an altar elf got disconnected. The feeling of needed help was starting to be more present by the minute. They both felt that so they both bolted out of the caravan leaving behind the desperate cries of their parents. Gywen held Ahruan by hand and run together through pairs and groups of screaming warriors, to the nearest altar. The warriors already gathered in the fortress, trying to stop the flooding of the scouts and werewolfs. In this big commotion, the girls saw how one of the two remaining altar elves was struck with a deadly blow. The one remaining elf was hit badly but she kept on protecting the statue. She saw Gywen and Ahruan running towards her and ordered them to stand down They were not prepared for this and this was clear as daylight. But the girls didn’t want to hear it. They were determined to sit one close to the other, just like they always have been. Double power can’t be equal to nothing. They run to the other side of the statue, took each other's hands, and stepped on the altar. Nothing happened. After a few minutes, in the rubble of the fight that was taking place just a few meters from them, they heard the beaten voice of the High elf telling them that only one elf can connect. Gywen looked Ahruan in her eyes and feeling determined she stepped out of the altar. After a few seconds, Ahruan connected to the altar. That energy rush that she felt was so real that she didn’t believe she was doing this. Ahruan felt connected and through this connection she also felt the presence of the High Elf from the other side of the statue. Her power was slowly being drained because of her deep injury sustained in the second line of fire arrows. It was clear that she could not stay any longer connected. Gywen encouraged Ahruan and said that the Wolf will protect her. To stay still and pray so that the wolf could recover his power in time and the warriors could successfully defend it. She then run in the midst of the battle and Ahruan remained alone.

The two neighbour altars were sadly broken, so Gywen didn’t have the possibility to connect. She looked for the closest one that could still be active and saw that the only remaining one was the one the High Elf was occupying. She tried to return near Ahruan but Gywen was taken inside the fight without her will. She was being crushed by the big armors, splattered with blood and dirt. Her heart was beating faster than never before. She was sure that she will die when she remembered about the Budge Dragon that Ami gave to her just that day. She put it on and in one second she turned into a tiny budge dragon, spitting fire. She spread out her tiny wings and flew away from the madness. She flew as quickly as she could so that she could avoid the smoke that was rising from the burning fortress. From that altitude she could have seen the High Elf, from the opposing altar, kneeling. If the connection would have been lost, only Ahruan would have been the only elf protecting the wolf and that was not enough. She feared that the wolf would drain her sister’s life and she could not let that happen. She needed to be there for her, like she always was. That’s why she returned to the altar, took the ring off and helped the High Elf rest near the altar. Then, she returned and stepped on the pedestal, feeling the power of the altar filling her soul. Soon after she connected she felt her sister and her fear. She needed to say something to her sister or, as she knew, she would have caved in. Gathered her strength and said to herself and her sister: “keep it up! We are almost done! You’re doing a great job”

They were both floating in the opposite altars near the wolf statue and they could feel their presence from inside the altar. They could not see eachother but they felt each other's presence. At the end of the battle, both of them were found tall, floating in the whiteness of the altars. They looked like white gemstones in the sea of bodies and blood. Two beautiful guardians that risked everything in order to save many more who couldn’t fight.

For their bravery, they received the High Elf status and were invited to return as Guardians of the statue, when their time will come. The image of the two white gemstones is still visible in the memory of the ones who participated in Crywolf during that wretched day.
