The Keylogger can be a hardware unit or a software program that records in real time the activity of the computer user.It records every key they press in whatever they do. Mostly this software was used from IT teams and customer support,to clear up problems and help people,but some individuals use this,to steal accounts,get passwords that are used for different things from the user.What they do is steal vital information.

Prohibition for this software in the internet space doesn't exist because of the original purpose of the program.This software can not only record the keys that are pressed,it can also screen capture specific things.It stores all it's data on the hard drive,but it can be programmed to transfer all the data to another web server.This type of transfer is used exactly to steal information.

Keylogger sometime can be part of malware that are downloaded on the user computer without their knowledge,which can make the software hard to detect.Always do a search and clean up what you find for suspicious software.

Hardware keylogger can be like a usb hardware device that is connect to the PC or laptop and through a dividing cable,connects the mouse and keyboard and downloads all the information on the hardware device,or sends it again on a remote server.

Software Keyloggers are harder to detect,they function in the background and get information as long as they are not found.Always make sure to check what programs are running.

Avoiding Keyloggers

• Always when you use different computer,doesn't matter if it's a friend,your workplace or the local internet cafe,search frist in the programs section what is installed on this computer,so you know in what you're going into.If you find such a program,uninstall it immediately before entering some of your account or password somewhere.

• If you continue to use the same computer after deleting the program,make sure that when you get home or to a safe computer,change all your passwords immediately,so you can avoid problems,because there is a possibility that you may not have deleted the right program.

• Now the trick.

But let's first see a few basic things about a keylogger. It is program that will "see" what you type in from your keyboard. For example when you type darkylord it will see it as darkylord BUT if you type lord click with your mouse behind the l and type darky the keylogger sees lorddarky but you have typed darkylord. Now, this little window is what we are going to exploit. Let's take for example that your password is k5va30k7b.

• You can type it like that :

v3, click behind the 3, a, click behind v, k, click after 3, 7 click before 7, k, click before v again, 5, click after 7, b, click after 3 again, 0. Of course you can do that in a txt and then copy paste in the pass textbox so you can see what are you writing. In any case, what the keylogger will see as your password is : v3ak7k5b0 which of course it is not the real one.

• Now the good thing is that even if they guess that you used that trick and even if they know the digits and numbers they will have to try n! different passwords with n been the number of your digits.

In the example n was 9 since k5va30k7b has 9 digits/characters so in order to find it right they will have to try 9!=1*2*3*4*5*6*7*8*9=362880 times. Something that is of course not practical.

• Of course in your case you may want to make only 2-3 changes with this trick and it can be enough unless you use as password something like a word that can easily be rearranged.
• So, here you go. With a bit of brains and knowledge you are safe from keyloggers.
